I have not met the heroes in my life, but I live everyday with them under my heart.
Twenty five years ago, I struggled to make it through each day. Diabetes had severely compromised my kidney function and eyesight. I was waiting for a miracle so I could become productive again.
Today we celebrate the choices a family made 25 years ago. Their unselfish act of gracious kindness has been a beacon to our family. There are no words that can adequately share how their decision to donate organs has impacted all of us.
Our two children were able to grow up with a healthy Mother. I continue to be part of our six grandchildren's lives. My husband and I remain active and now enjoy a busy retirement. All because a family turned their tragedy into a blessing for someone else.
I love to share "our" story. I now live without diabetes, so each day is sweet and every day is a time to reflect on those who made it possible. Thank you organ donors, doctors, blood donors and staff for all you do.
Life is good because I not only carry precious organs, I carry the spirit of my donors also.
